Esports are the new generation sports of the 21st century, with 2.5 billion players all around the world. More than 45% of them are women. However, the female representativeness in major tournaments and stages is still less than 1%. Who are these women? What are their challenges, battles and desires? The GIRL GAMERS documentary is a trip to the universe of esports, focused on these women who fight for recognition and to inspire a new generation in a male dominated industry.
Set in the Portuguese summer of 2018, the movie follows competitors from Europe, Asia and America at the action-packed GIRLGAMER Esports Festival held at the elegant Casino Estoril.

Presented by Grow uP eSports and produced by Litoral Filmes, the first episode follows the exploits of the world’s premier female esports athletes as they go head-to-head against the best teams from Europe, Asia, and North America, in both the global phenomenon Counter Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) and the hugely popular MOBA, League of Legends (LOL).
GIRL GAMERS NOW IS OUR TIME follows the action of the two-day festival that occurred against the backdrop of a typhoon level ten that had hit Macau SAR the week before. Not letting the on-the-ground difficulties get to them, each competitor accepted the challenge of playing against athletes of different cultures, races and philosophies. The mental aspect of the game became particularly compelling as teams from American and Europe faced off against Asian counterparts for the first time ever.
